Laser Hair Removal in Long Beach, Ca.

No matter what method you try, removing unwanted hair consumes too much of your time. Shaving is a daily burden that results in nicks, cuts and sometimes even undesirable stubble.  At home methods from hair removal creams to epilators provide inconsistent results. Waxing is more thorough, but regular appointments are expensive and difficult to schedule–not to mention painful.

It’s no wonder you are looking for a better solution for hair removal! Laser hair removal provides a permanent solution for getting rid of unwanted hair. The procedure is as efficient as it is safe, so it’s no wonder that laser hair removal is one of the most popular non-invasive cosmetic procedures offered in the United States.

Image RX is proud to provide this effective and permanent solution for hair removal to the Long Beach area. Contact our office, which is conveniently located on the Pacific Coast Highway, to set-up an appointment to get the permanently silky smooth and hairless legs, underarms, and bikini area you’ve been waiting for.

How does laser hair removal work?

Hair development occurs in three stages: Anagen, during which the hair actually grows; Catagen, the resting stage; and Telogen, when the hair is shed from the body. All of the hair on your body is in one of these three states at any given time.

Lasers target hair during the anagen growth phase by damaging active hair follicles with laser light. During the procedure laser light energy is targeted at the hair follicle. The natural pigment of the hair follicle absorbs the energy which destroys it. This destruction of the follicle is what prevents future growth from occurring. Because not all hair is in the active anagen growth phase at a single time, multiple laser hair removal treatments are necessary to fully remove all hair from an area of the body.

We recommend laser hair removal sessions be spaced about eight weeks apart to ensure a shift in the growth cycle so that all hair follicles are targeted in the active anagen phase. Typically it takes five to six sessions at our Long Beach office to achieve optimal results. The number of appointments needed to achieve full and permanent hair removal varies depending on an individual’s unique hair characteristics as well as the size of the area treated.

Laser hair removal is very safe because the skin around the follicle is not damaged during the procedure, only the hair and the follicle. Once the hair follicle is destroyed it no longer produces hair. Remaining hair follicles may experience some hair growth, but it will be lighter in tone and thinner. The efficacy of optimal laser hair removal treatment is almost 99% however results vary amongst individuals. Sometimes new hair follicles develop. These may occur as a result of age, changes in hormones, or even be an inherited trait. Clients who experience this new follicle growth often benefit from an annual follow-up to help keep the treated area completely hair free.

Am I a good candidate for laser hair removal?

Ideal candidates for laser hair removal possess lightly colored skin and darkly pigmented hair. This combination provides the ideal contrast necessary for the pigment of the follicle to absorb the laser’s energy. Patients with white or grey hair do not make good candidates for this procedure. Blond or red hair will absorb some of the laser energy, however the treatment is not as effective on these colors as it is on darker hair. For the procedure to be successful, hair must be darker than the skin that surrounds it to provide contrast.
